Thanks! You've a nice collection of the BIG M stuff! My TEAC continues to function perfectly some 30+ years down the road and I suspect it will see me out too.

I made a serious recording on my SD 3020 this evening. Used Maxell UD XLII and recorded a smooth Jazz CD. Used the 3020 at high speed no Dolby. Amazing sound!

My only piece of Marantz gear is my SD-4000 two-speed three-head deck, it sounds great. I in fact just uploaded a video of it playing back a high-bias no-dolby tape at high-speed, and it sounds great for it's age. Link ---> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WJ9pfBDY-Ng

My Marantz SD 3020 2 speed cassette deck is VERY VERY sick right now as I managed to short out half the main board. It'll need about 10 new components to revive. I'm of course not giving up on it since it's a killer machine when running.

My Marantz stuff is from the seventies. I have a 2285 and a 2230 receiver and I just picked up a near mint 5120 cassette recorder. I doesn't sound near as good as my Teac reel to reels, but it looks great and it's easy for my wife to operate.

i had a huge collection of the japanese built 70s stuff but sold it all off. must have had over 15 receivers in quad and stereo in total. now just have an american made console 3300 preamp i believe it is. used to belong to the founder of miami records and was part of his sound system in his office.
i also have one of those big clunky digital recorders. pmd1 maybe? cant remember the model number. i think i may have a 4020 in the wood case if stereorob didnt get it. amp section was shot. was gonna mod it to a 4x100w class d amp.

I just finished the restoration (or should I say the techs at Magnetic Tape did so) on a Marantz 27 receiver. The heart and soul of my bedroom system and my first ever Marantz receiver. On my main system I have a Marantz CD-53 (the middle brother of the 43 to 63 line from the 90's) cd player. The CD-53 was my first ever piece of Marantz gear and is a very good little player. Wish I had the remote though, it was lost or went bad years before I bought the player.

Proud Marantz owner checking in.
My stash;
4400 quadraphonic receiver with SQ-A full-logic decoder
CD-400B Disc demodulator
5220 cassette deck
5030 cassette deck
Superscope (by Marantz) TD-830 8track record/player
Question:
Did Marantz make vacuum tube stereo amps with blue VU meters?
The reason I ask is because I want to buy two vacuum tube amps for front & rear line outs from my 4400 quad receiver. I know McIntosh has made them.
I'm really loving the Marantz 510 amps but that is solid state, not tube.
The only quad amp by Marantz is the 4220 which puts out less power than my 4400 and it's also solid state.
Any suggestions?

Took a drive south yesterday to Colonial Heights, Virginia to drop off a neglected Yamanha four track deck. The electronics shop always has cool vintage stuff that works as they service most everything before it hits the floor, and they are uptight about fresh belts, not a bad thing. Anyhow, nabbed my second two speed deck, the Maranta SD-1000 for 35 dollars. I have been running this thing non-stop since purchase as I worked most of today from home, it was kicking in the background and I made a lot of tapes with the high speed setting. I am excited about the sonic results with some common/older tapes I was using, for taping a variety of my favorite music from vinyl. I wonder with the high speed and not using Dolby if its more forgiving with generic normal bias tapes of the era. I gotta figure out what works best before ruining valuable still sealed tapes, but my compromised standards are such that I cant see how any used early 80's tapes that I have thrown at it have sounded bad (Maxell UD, BASF Ferro Extra I, TDK SA '82, and the later TDK SD for kicks which actually sounded brilliant to me....I used the normal eq setting with high bias trick with that tape. The eq control is another bonus with this reasonably priced deck...only had this feature on my Nak before.
