Can anyone help me out here? All aftermarket belts for this deck seems to be the incorrect sizing. Can anyone source the original belts for this deck? Is there a Sony crossover that would work?

Scott, your repairman is wrong, that's all. The original size of the belt B (between flywheels) is 0.4 mm thick, 4 mm wide and 228.5 mm (exactly 9'') long (circumference). If you measure it folded it is about 114 mm.
Cheers

Something is screwy with my deck if for some reason the belt you supplied didn't seem correct to the tech. I don't know what to say.

braxus below is a cross for PRB belts to AIWA belts. The # in the PRB # is the belt size.

Scott, I managed to get the W&F of the XK-009 you sold me back into specs by replacing both capstan belts with ones in Fred's belt kit. W&F went from 0.09-0.12% DIN wtd down to 0.02-0.04%. Thanks for including the belt kit and the manuals with the deck! *bigthumbup*
It looks like this XK-009 had been carrying an incorrect B belt (between capstans). The B belt in Fred's kit measured 4mm x 0.4mm x ~229mm, but the one in the deck was 3mm wide, 0.6mm thick and shorter too. Once Fred's belts went in, the W&F improvement was huge. I also lubricated the capstan bearings which may have helped as well.
Takeup torque was on the high side, so I adjusted the play moter voltage per SM instruction and got it below 50 g/cm.
I checked the erase head again. The screw securing the erase head against the head block was slightly loose. After tightening it, the deck can erase metal tapes properly, so the erase head is not defective. Previously, tape contact with the erase head was probably compromised by the wrong B belt that affected tape tension between capstans.
This deck is now in great shape and I'm very pleased! I'll get to replacing the analog switch with ANT4066A one of these weekends.

That is exactly what I was telling Scott in the first place ;) . I've worked with Fred Marrs to get these Aiwa belts right - look at my previous post.
Cheers

Thanks for the good work there, Alex!
Now I should go check my AD-F990 decks as the replacement belts I installed a good while back were NOT from Fred...
