I have lots of records, cassettes and cd's and have them all stacked tidily on shelves, but when it comes to minidiscs I just can't figure out a good way to organize and store them.
Has anybody any ideas on this.

I've seen some MD storage racks on eBay, but they hold maybe 10-12 MDs and are filled. My MD storage issues haven't approached my cassette issues yet.

I bought this nice cabinet a couple of years ago.

In the US, cream cheese used to be packed in nice wooden boxes. This was way before my time, but my grandfather used to use these boxes to store hardware (screws, nails, etc) in his wood shop.

The dimensions, would you believe it, are perfect for minidisc storage. You can get maybe 30-35, on end, in one box. I have no idea if boxes like this were ever commonplace in Ireland. You could paint them to make them more appealing, or leave them the way they are for a hip vintage look.

Man, when you guys figure something out lemme know. They're like cock-a-roaches, those minidiscs are. I keep finding them under my pillow... *eyepop*

I've been trying to build something myself but my problem always is, when the dimensions are small it usually turns into a piece of crap.
close652, your Hama case looks really nice,is it designed specifically for mini discs?

Ideally I want to separate cockroaches...sorry,discs :) into different categories like radio broadcasts, compilations, live recordings etc,so the unit with individual drawers/compartments would be best.

I've got several thousand MD's and have to say that though I've used several storage boxes/racks and binders purposely made for MD's, the Bulk of my MD's are tossed in shoeboxes inside file cabinets.

The Best Solution that I've used is the binder approach where clear plastic pouches hold a sheet full of MD's. Several companies sold these for MD's back in '97.
Almost nothing has been marketed MD storage since there was a large pre-recorded MD section inside of Best Buy stores. That was before Y2K and the start of 21st Century.

If one takes an old used MEDIUM FLAT RATE PRIORITY US Postal mailing box and cuts both side ends of the box , one can make cardboard trays that HOLD 37 MD's.
A friend of mine that also has thousands of MD's showed me this.
He even used this as a template and constructed about twenty wooden trays, that are sorta like the wood cassette trays common in the 1970's.

I'm not that organized enough to where I place everything back where it ought to go, so my collection is not organized alphabetically, numbered in an alpha numeric coding, to where he looks at his computer index and can find the location of his MD, LP, Open Reel Tape Box, or cassette. He has at least 5000 LP's too.
My stuff is sometimes not labeled, with just Post-It sticky note attached with a minimal description. I tend to prefer Colored SONY MD's for ease of differentiating the discs when recording live and recording certain material as far as particular groups/bands or style of music.
