Okay, I 've got a decent stable of Naks, the top 3 being an RX-505, ZX-7, Dragon.

I've also got a Pioneer CT-F1250 (Not my fav, tho.)

What Revox deck should I be looking for.

I know absolutely nothing about Revox, but I keep hearing they compare well to Nakamichi.

So, with due consideration to my current gear, which models would go well with my Naks?

I've been seeing alot of B215s, good choice?

Hi,

I do all my recording on a Nakamichi CR-7A and the majority playback via a Revox B215-S. The Revox is a superb build all round, the motor being particurlarly impressive.

A number of members on the forum own both Revoxes and Nakamichis, no doubt they'll chip in with their comments.

The Studer A710 is also worth considering.

I've got 2 B215s and 2 B710MKIIs, really your only cassette choices. They all required total recaps and some cmos mods to be reliable and sound their best. They all needed new pressure rollers to get decent W&F numbers as well. I prefer the sound and usage of the B215, but the B710s just have an old school coolness that is so neat, with the built in clock, big ol'toggles. Like Stu said, built like tanks, framewise, not so good PCB wise or cap wise. Massive dual DD flywheels, make the Nak ones look like cheap toys, but I still greatly prefer the sound of the Naks. Of course, the B215 auto cals only, and the B710 is "under the hood, set for one of each type" only.

I have 2 B215's and love them, they have a different sonic presentation than a Nak. They also play very well with tapes made on Nak decks. I'd do for it, right now I'm experimenting with the cables on the Revox. They like Bluejeans, and AQ, and AR's. Right now I'm using a B-215>AR cables>NAD3020 headphone amp in the bedroom and it's sounds pretty good.
