This is basically an informative message. I don't participate in any other online audio forums, and I've noticed that Tapeheads forum posts get picked up in Google searches pretty well, and I figure someone else might appreciate this info.
The pair of Snell E/III floorstanding speakers I purchased a while back never had spikes, and now that they are on carpet, I wanted to get spikes for them. But where? And what size? E-mails to Snell went unanswered.
I found various online resources saying that the stock spike size was 5/16" thread for the factory inserts on the bottom of each speaker. Well -not on my speakers. It's 3/8", coarse thread. My first stop was Parts Express (they carry a whole bunch of speaker related stuff). They have 3/8" spikes but couldn't tell me anything about the threads.
So - I found out that you can buy a nice set of generic, 3/8" coarse thread spikes from Michael Percy Audio, for a quite reasonable price. I have no affiliation with Michael, just happy that he had the spikes available. They were shipped quickly and do a fine job at spiking my E/IIIs.
