here is one of the best VCRs ever made. one of the very first S-VHS VCRs, (perhaps the very first) it is a very beautiful and full-featured deck...

(NOT IN MY POSSESSION, but hope it will be, someday...) (NOW IN MY POSSESSION AS OF 11-15-08!!)

These old decks were well built in their day, but I have found first hand that their last model decks produced the best picture quality in any S-VHS deck ever made. Models like the S9500 all the way up to the 9900. I have the 9800 myself. The build on these new decks are wanting, but the picture they produce is second to none. That is why you see these perticular decks selling for between $400-600 used today. But I agree the old ones were better built with more features. I don't like the idea my newer JVC doesn't have level meter knobs to adjust, but you have to go into a menu to do so.

MITSUBISHI VCRs are my other favorites, specifically the late-'80s models. more specifically, the HS-U70 from 1988...

here's the first time i ever seen one;
