I just finished looking at Lady Ayeka's pictures of the Nakamichi Tri-Tracer: first of all, thank you for posting all of these great pictures!

Lately, I've been thinking about trying to find either a Tri-Tracer, a Nak 600, or an Advent 201 cassette deck. The Pioneer CTF-700 and 900 are other models I'm considering, too. How are things with spare parts for any of these models?

Also, say one were to replace the belts and pinch rollers, etc., how would any of the above perform in terms of wow and flutter? Would these models still offer steady playback, or is the hope of this long gone?

Just curious. Thanks!

Mike

If the mechanical parts (pinch rollers, belts, etc) are replaced with ones to new spec, then the sound reproduction should be maintained within spec. If you get a generic belt or one that's a tad too long or tight, then wow and flutter will be affected.

Thank you, Fast Forward and Scorpion, for the advice!

Much appreciated,

The Advent 200 was considered the first truly hifi cassette deck as it was the first cassette deck to have Dobly noise reduction. Plus the fact it was built by Nakamichi for Advent before they were putting their own name on stuff. It wasn't the first thing Nakamichi built however as they made cassette deck innards for other companies previous to Dolby for companies like Fisher and even for Sears Consoles. Here is a perfectly functional one from my collection...
