I'm with niklasthedolphin on this one. I do have an old tube Voice Of Music 1446 that's waiting to be recapped and I used to own a Accuphase E-202.
I just never did understand the integrated thing. Always thought you should just get a receiver or the seperates.
Socal Sam

Rex: True. Integrateds are in some ways compromised for having the pre and main in the same box. And, unlike the more powerful receivers, most integrateds cannot be uncoupled, which makes integrateds less versatile. That being said, I find integrateds to sound better than receivers. And having the matching tuner sitting on top is pure eye candy.

Welcome imasoundhound:
The 3150 (along with the 2200/1155/4155) is my favorite NAD and perhaps the best sounding of all the gray faced NAD's I've owned. And, I've owned plenty including the Monitor Series.
Instead of the Sansui AU-7900, I would recommend the AU-717. They are relatively cheap ($150-$200) and IMO one of the finest sounding 85 wpc integrateds around. Dual transformer and discreet outputs make this a winner.
The Kenwood KA-9100 enjoys a following but IMO, it is flawed for having modular Power Pack outputs which cannot be replaced. If you can step up to the Kenwood Supremes like the 600, 650, or KA-907, you will be much happier.

I have the SA8100 but it only plays the left channel. Whe wind the volume quickly to max, the right starts playing but slightly lower in volume than the left. On switch-off, I have to repeat above. The TX 8100 needs some dial lamps.
Could anyone suggest what the problem may be?

That could be a flaky speaker relay or dirty switch potentiometer contact.

I was hoping to pair my TX-9100 with an SA-6500 II but it sounds like mine may have accidentally been sent to the trash when my old repairman's kids were helping him clear out the office. I parted the matching TX for a friend overseas years back to repair hers (she had a bunch of mods and needed a new Alps switch and power supply among other things).
She was a licensed transmitter engineer as well, I was glad to help.

As some of you know I've been without tunes for more than 2 weeks as I had to sell my Accuphase preamp and Carver amp to make ends meet last month. And now I am cleaning up my trusty Thorens TD-126 III to sell this month.
In the meantime I dug out my old Empire 698 and cleaned it up and replaced the belt and motor grommets etc. But that still left me with no amp or preamp and no way to use it. Digging through my old junk pile I ran across my old broken Sony TA-1130 Integrated amp. I finally got motivated enough today to take it apart and fix it. Turns out an emitter resistor had gotten so hot that it unsoldered itself at one end and burned the board up a bit. Probably had a bad solder joint to begin with that caused it. I cleaned it all up and used some bus wire to fortify the etches, cleaned all the pots and switches and its now back among the living. I forgot how good this thing sounds.

[Quote=Laz Baz] Socal Sam thanks,
1. It was the relay. I managed to get to the contacts and passed a slim piece cut from a plastic drink bottle. Is there a better way to burnish the contacts? I have run it for a day, off and on, & will continue some more. But I feel that it will not last. Where could I get a relay & "power on" lamp (8V 50mA) replacement from? It is an European model & relay is DAICHI.
I have DeoxIT all the controls & switches.
2. As far as the Bias & DC spec, how technical is it to check this. I am Ok with electronics but not used any sophisticated measuring instruments. As I will be having more time , I would like to get into more diagostics and repair. Where would I start with instrumentation stuff?
3. If it will help anyone else in the Forum, I could post some pics of the relay.
4. My TX 8100 has a few of the dial lamps not working (8V 0.3A). Again spares from?

William: Remove the relay from the circuit board. Then carefully remove the plastic cover. This should give you access to the contacts. You can burnish them with emery board or equivalent.
You will need the service manual and a DVM to check bias and dc. Not too difficult but beware there is dangerous voltage inside.

I'm going down the integrated route very soon, my amplifier has been commissioned and is being hand built with delivery expected in 4-5 weeks.
Until recently my system had evolved into a Tom Evans Audio Design Vibe preamplifier, Groove phono stage and Chord Electronics SPM 1200C power amplifier but I opted to sell the lot, and this after having had many separate combinations down the years.
A single box solution is immensely appealing, so a super integrated amplifier search begun - actually, that's not strictly true as a dedicated phono stage will partner the amp at a later date.
I almost took a shot in the dark and went for a new Naim Supernait that Mignun67 was selling(Not sure Richard knew I was watching his auction), a Boulder 865 was available locally but it's gotta be black and this was silver, the Lavardin IT Reference has become too expensive. I know the Krell KAV- 400xi well, and it would drive the Sonus Fabers down to the deepest lower registers with ease but I found the mid range strident. A couple of contenders didn't even provide a tape output!
I've remained loyal to the UK and my choice is manufactured here by a small established company with a growing reputation that specializes solely in amplifiers and cables.
Suffice to say it'll be the preferred hairshirt/no frills/pared down design that floats my boat.
Somewhat cryptic at this stage but all will be revealed in a few weeks time.
Possible review to follow.

Hi Stuart,
Nice of you to help support the local economy, by keeping your integrated amplifier selection limited to the UK. Had you used this company's product before, and if not, had you heard of some very positive testimonials about the amp you are about to have custom-fabricated? I'm just trying to narrow the field down, but it might be difficult to correctly guess which make you are going with. One premium, vintage metal C-90 to the TH member who has the winning guess?
Nando.

08-18-2010, 02:02 PM
Nando,
Don't know if I could stretch to a premium metal, but yeah a BASF CR S-II 90 twinpack might fit the bill.
Each "entrant" gets 2 guesses and the competition closes when the right answer is given, who knows you could have your tapes before I have my amp.
How say you?

I know the Krell KAV- 400xi well, and it would drive the Sonus Fabers down to the deepest lower registers with ease but I found the mid range strident. A couple of contenders didn't even provide a tape output!
I've remained loyal to the UK and my choice is manufactured here by a small established company with a growing reputation that specializes solely in amplifiers and cables.
Suffice to say it'll be the preferred hairshirt/no frills/pared down design that floats my boat.
Somewhat cryptic at this stage but all will be revealed in a few weeks time.
Possible review to follow.
Missed this Stuart.

I've got a couple, both Tandbergs (surprise!).
3012A integrated amp as seen in bottom slot of the stack system pic. This one is on semi-permanent loan but I just picked up an earlier 3012 version (still in black) from Craigslist. Same thing with silver knobs.
TA300, which is an older model similar in size and design to the TR 10xx receivers. Nice little amp, but one of these days I need to track down the cause of its weak channel. Lots of cap harvesting involved on that one I suspect...

LFD?
Ditto Daren,
Just caught up with your reply.
I have a new LFD NCSE integrated amplifier, that's Low Fuzzy Distortion New Chassis Special Edition.
Will do a mini-review once I've had a proper listen and the chance to make an evaluation. Early signs are very promising.

Hi Stuart,
With such a myriad of integrated amplifiers currently made in the UK, I didn't have a clue as to correctly naming the amp you were buying. Is the contest over, now? I'd like to take a shot at a guess.
Congratulations on the new addition to your system. Later, could you provide a picture of your whole system?
Nando.

Hi Nando,
Daren's the lucky boy as he guessed correctly.
I'm sure there is a thread somewhere on the forum with images of my former system.
Currently, I'm minus a tonearm, cartridge and phono stage. A SME V, Ortofon Windfeld and Tom Evans Groove not being easy components to replace in terms of quality or economically but rest assured that'll be rectified as soon as possible.

Nando, we are very fortunate in the UK as we have a number of small companies like LFD making world class products.
