Just back from the shop. She's looking awesome and sounding the same. Are there any other TH'ers that own this classic?

What was the problem with the receiver?

Those Yamaha receivers sure are lookers. I've always been a seperates person (as far as an integrated amp and tuner).. so perhaps my CA-2010 and my CT-1010 count as owning something 'close' to the CR-2020 together. I haven't heard a CR like that since in a showroom in the 1970's... though mainly was looking at and buying the separates. But I've always been intrigued at the 'Presence'.. which I believe is a midrange control... and what it brings to the dance. And why Yamaha didn't use it on there CA series of amps??:-?

Your example is in great condition. I usually remove the wood case when taking them to the shop. That way, I'm sure there are no new dings when I get it back.
Anyways, I've heard the CR-2020 and owned four CR-1020's, which differs slightly. Not my favorite sound, the bass is a little shy. The 20 Hz trace shows significant tilting which means it cannot maintain a low frequency tone. I was also not very happy with the reliability and the heat they produce. Aparently, these receivers had a Yamaha service bulletin for the power supply board. I had this done for one of my CR-1020's but it was rather expensive because the power supply board requires some labor to access. And, the lamps are a nightmare to change.

According to my tech, "one of the 25 volt supplies was out." I'm happy, it works great and sounds excellent :-)<-

i've had my CR-2020 for a few years now, refurb'ed by merrylander and it was well worth the time and expense. it has run with ADS L810's, AR9's and currently pulls duty pushing a pair of AR91's. the only thing mine lacks is some minor cosmetics, but its always performed wonderfully.

I've read of the exploits of your 2020 and it always seemed to me like it was one hell of a piece of gear. Now I can understand why. All I need now is a pair of AR9's :D
