I've had this great Tandberg 3600XD since 1975. kept it in good care throughout many moves but it started having problems with reels and possibly the right VU meter (flies all over the place, but listening not affected -- not sure about recording since haven't done any off air in decades). when i started to remove the old belts they broke and recently found some which thought would work. found a repair manual through tapeheads (Vintage Audio Resources) which is pretty generic for 3400, 3500 & 3600. it seems to show the reel belts as ONE, not 2 separate belts. I still had the broken belts and -- though dementia may be the culprit -- could have sworn these are 2 belts, not one bigger single belt. Any thoughts or experience replacing these?? My enduring gratitude if you can help. I love the old lady! Richard

Look here !
http://nrhf.no/kjop-salg/repdeler.html

Its a 'figur 8' -make sure it's crossing at the left side of the motor wheel, and notice the two grooves to prevent rubbing.

Clutches are a normal problem as well.

hello tandberg,
i think i told you that i went to your site but didn't see any reference to your "tandberg" handle or Avatar. but i did end up connecting to Lasse. we had some enjoyable messages about my dreams to visit Norway. he also had what i needed (the belt and the clutchsets) and i just sent him payment. like you he is incredibly knowledgeable. also his civility is manifest. thanks again, richard.

Lasse is me, I'm Lasse.
The Tandberg avatar, I meant the picture here, of Tandberg Huldra5 and the telephone.

L,
I didn't see this until now, which now I know from our emails. I hope you got the pics of the 9100X I sent via my work email. I thought because it has very wide bandwidth (we transmit tons of encrypted data and email) that I could send more pix but I had to keep removing pix for it to send the email. Still have it hidden away and no time to fiddle more with it, so nothing to report. If you didn't get the pics I'll try again if interested. Can't wait to get the belt & clutchsets to get the 3641 going again. Richard

L,
That is............now that I take my "anti-postal" (new marketing name for anti-psychotic) medications every day. It must be something in the water since it's an American malady and people here love their guns much more than audiophiles love their music and gear. We here need Soma (Brave New World). But seriously.I am patient, don't 'need it yesterday', and I understand that coming from Norway over the Pole, especially with the pack ice breaking up earlier now due to global warming....... { ~ `
Thx, R
