I had a shot at a pair of A100's a while ago, they needed a refoam. I wonder how they compare to your A60's...

You shouldv'e grabbed them. Refoaming is as easy as brushing your teeth. Did I ever send you the video on how to do it?

You did and I kept it. I should see if I can dig up that guy's email address...although I don't really have anywhere to put them...

Have you tried these little buggers with a SE Valve amp?
Match made in Hevan.
If it's not rude to ask, what did you get for the pair you sold.
Cheers G

I still own one pair, I wish I had kept my second pair. They were in fair condition, the white paper cones were yellowed from maybe cig smoke or UV light. I got $250, which is an okay price for the home version (with grills).

I've been looking for a pair of those locally, so far no luck.

I have not heard the home version but I did not like the NS-10's I heard at the studio's I've been in. I would say they were some of my least favorite speakers ever. The little Auratones used to sum to mono had as good of sound IMO.

Rex, your impressions are correct. The NS-10M cannot go below 60 Hz, which means most of the bass is gone and that includes the bass component of vocals and instruments. Still, the mids and trebles are crystal clear which makes for picking details but also for uncomfortable listening.

Hey guys these units are only in little boxes. To get the best out of them you need to run some sub bass. I tried a friends pair at home with my 15W SE triode amp and they made my (non modified) B&W 602's sound like shit. The mids were so so nice and the top end was a sweet as a button. These yamaha's generally go for AUD$ 700.00 or more in good nick here in AUS. If I did not have my Tannoys I would be looking for a pair for sure

Rex I think there are a couple of versions. The ones I'm on about are the white paper pulp cones with the beryllium tweeter NS-10M. I'm no 100% sure but I think there was a NS-10 which is a different animal.

All hooked up an working in various rooms:

Infinity Kappa 6 (http://www.lautsprecherklinik.de/Bearbeitet/Shop/Infinity%20Kappa%206%20NLK.jpg)crossed over at 100Hz to a VMPS (http://www.vmpsaudio.com/pics/215sub.jpg) sub, which has a dedicated 500W sub amp (http://www.partsexpress.com/pe/showdetl.cfm?&Partnumber=300-806) from Parts Express.

The home office contains a pair of Infinity Primus 150 (http://www.stereophile.com/loudspeakerreviews/404infinity/)s powered by a Sonic Impact T-Amp (http://www.parts-express.com/pe/showdetl.cfm?Partnumber=300-958). This combination is as closest to high end sound you can get for less than $300.

The garage has a pair of Polk S6 (http://www.polkaudio.com/downloads/manuals/home/S-series_Manual.pdf) speakers hooked up to a vintage JVC JR-S201 (http://www.hifigoteborg.se/photo%20arkiv%20receivers/photo%20arkiv/JVC_JR_S201_detail.htm) receiver.

The sun room is cursed by a pair of Bose 301 Series II speakers and a cheap Insignia receiver. I don't spend much time in the sun room.

Just four systems in the house. I guess I am slacking off.

Very true. I've heard the NS-10M with a sub and it is very nice indeed. I wish I'd kept my other pair, I suspect these thing would make very nice satellites in a 5.1 HT system.

Beryllium in the NS-10M? I thought the tweeters were titanium. I'll have to look again for the "rainbow sheen" on the dome.

We've had a lot of the same speakers. These are the one's on your list that I no longer own:

pioneer hpm 100's
infinity sm-120's
AR 2Ax's
jbl 4311b's
polk monitor 7's

I still have a pair of:

soundcraftsmen lancer's (unknown model)

They are the larger bookshelf model with 12 inch woofer and horn tweeter in a coaxial configuration. There is also a 12 inch passive radiator. I run this pair with my Fisher 500-C.

I've seen many of the others on your list but was not tempted.

my lancers were small bookshelf. i didn't get the cabinets. i bought them on that auction site. they were out in oregon, shipping would have been pretty high, and the cabs weren't in excellent condition. i bought the for the driver(s) which i was surprised to find was manufactured by utah. each cab had one speaker, which is an eight inch dual cone with a small cone tweeter mounted in front on a crossmember.

my order of preference:

klipsch kg-4.2's
large advents
jbl 4311b's
hpm 100's

i'm pretty sure the infinity rs4b's will take the top spot once refoamed, but the klipsch's will be hard to beat. hard to say where the AR 2ax's will fall once rebuilt.

I'm predicting third place for your AR 2ax's. The paper mids and tweeter get shouty with anything over moderate volume, IMO.

so you think they'll out-do the advents?
