I should have looked at the surface before trying to play them since they haven't been played in years and used to be my father's. Well I didn't do that and suddenly my cd player was making all kinds of strange noises. *eyepop*

First thing I did was stop everything and open the drawer to take that look at the cd's and there were fingerprints and what looked like chocolate on them. My father was an avid fan of chocolate so that is a possibility.*tongue* Then I started looking around for something to clean the stuff off these two, they are definitely worth salvaging for late night listening pleasure. Then it hit me, microfibre towels and Mirror Glaze Final Inspection (product #34).

It worked great and you don't have to worry about soap or haze buildup with Final Inspection. The stuff is actually formulated to take out the haze left by wax when detailing a car and is one of the most gentle and effective cleaners I have ever used. It isn't cheap though at about $35 a gallon so use it sparingly when cleaning anything. Just another necessity and mother moment.*grin*

Optical discs are manufactured from optical grade polycarbonate. The cheapest effective cleaner is the same as that used to clean eyeglasses. Wipe radially from the center of the disc to the outside to prevent scratches from lying on a track. Radial wiping is perpendicular to tracks.

Ethanol is also a great and perfectly safe solvent to clean polycarbonate. (Everclear, or just vodka in states where you can't get Everclear.) Clean the crud off, then finish with the Meguiars.

I use water. Dish soap and a good rinse sometimes A lot of elbow grease to dry.

The final inspection and microfibre towel did a great job. I figure if I can use the same stuff to clean the paint and polycarb windscreen on my Vespa without scratching either, the cd would be safe.*Hi5*
