Okay, the ubiquitous list of ten. You're marooned on a desert island. You have the ability to play music, but you were stuck with only ten (10) single LPs (meaning no double or box sets, etc) or CDs. Miraculously, you were fortuitous in picking what was in your backpack when you were marooned.
Your choices?
Mine are:
Keiko Matsui ~ Sapphire
Lee Ritenour/David Grusin ~ Harlequin
Dire Straits ~ Love Over Gold
Scorpions ~ Lovedrive
Rush ~ 2112
UFO ~ Obsession
Bruce Hornsby & The Range ~ The Way it is
Steve Winwood ~ Arc of a Diver
Dan Fogelberg ~ Nether Lands
Al DiMeola ~ Elegant Gypsy
What's your choices?

This is a tough one. These are not necessarily my top ten favorites and I'm sure I'd change my mind on a different day but right now these are 10 albums that I could listen to over and over and not tire of. These are in no order.
John Coltrane ~ Giant Steps
Unida ~ El Coyote
Pink Floyd ~ Obscured By Clouds
Trapeze ~ Medusa
Rush ~ Grace Under Pressure
Aphex Twin ~ The Richard D. James Album
Centro-Matic ~ Redo The Stacks
Stereolab ~ Dots & Loops
Iron Maiden ~ Killers
Led Zeppelin ~ Houses Of The Holy
These were also chosen for a bit of variety and I've already thought of others while typing :D

This is a tough one.
It is. I stared with a list of 40+ and then whittled it down. Ten is way too few .... but dem's da rules!

Do they have to be commercial album releases? Or can my 10 CD's be (ahem) homemade ones where I pick and choose the individual tracks?

Or can my 10 CD's be (ahem) homemade ones where I pick and choose the individual tracks?
Nope. That would allow you to pick one song off an otherwise mediocre albm, and then we might as well all have 40GB iThingys.....
10 LPs or CDs as released.....

after looking at your list I'm slipping the Scorpions ~ Lovedrive in when no one is looking *quiet*
And Des, NO...that won't work. Only commercial releases. Bad taper*no*

That would be tough. But the most logical choices under that scenario would be the ones where I like the most songs on a disc. Though many albums contain songs I like (and in some cases more so than the sum of all albums). But in this case, I would need to have the most individual songs.
So here would be my choices, also in no particular order of preference:
1. Robert Miles "Dreamland"
2. John Cougar Mellencamp "Scarecrow"
3. Bruce Springsteen "Born In The USA"
4. The Outfield "Big Innings (Best Of)"
5. U2 "The Joshua Tree"
6. Fleetwood Mac Rumors"
7. Paul Van Dyk "Nothing But You" (CD single. But I REALLY love this song)
8. Neil Diamond "Moods"
9. The Ocean Blue "Beneath The Rhythm And Sound"
10. Tom Petty+ The Heartbreakers "Greatest Hits"

I think that one should get a bye, and anyone so choosing would get a freebie. IMHO. :D
