Greetings fellow tapers! Got lots to fill you in on for this weeks site updates. Sheeh. Where to begin?
Let's start with a couple of milestones: We have passed the 10,000 mark for posts! Good job guys. Not bad for a four month old site. Although we occassionally have our slow days, the overall trend is going nowhere but up. Maybe we'll hit 20,000 in just three months!
The other is that fellow TH'er Scorpion8 is the first one to hit the 1000 post mark. He is definitely a genuine, bona fide TapeHead. Excellent bro!
Also of related interest is that we have convinced the Member Of The Year from The Abyss (http://www.audiokarma.org) to jump ship and join here. To let that go unnoticed without bragging rights is simply impossible. I love it. As word about TapeHeads much more open and laid back atmosphere continues to spread, we will continue to grow. As far as online audiophile discussion groups go, we are already in the Top 10. In the tape category, we are probably now in the Top 5. My goal is to eventually grow the site into the #1 spot in that category and eventually be in the Top 5 overall for Audio discussions. We are definitely well on our way it and couldn't have happened without all of you. So again. I sincerely and humbly thank each and every one of you who has taken the time to come over, join, become active, and spread the invites.
Which leads me to my next point: Site Sponsorships. TapeHeads is now recognized by two distinguished companies: USRecording (http://www.usrecordingmedia.com) is now an official TapeHeads.Net sponsor/advertiser. You can all see their link on the pages. Please, if you are in the market for any sort of new tape or tape related purchase, I urge all of you to visit them through the link provided and buy from them.
And the other is Ebay (http://www.ebay.com). Many of us browse and buy from them for one thing or another-whether it's NOS tapes (which USR does not deal with), components, or DVD's for the kids.
Please, since you go there anyway, visit them through the also-provided link here on TapeHeads. This is an indirect way to help sponsor the site: For so many clicks and completed purchases through said link, TapeHeads receives a small donation. So you would be doing a huge favor if you cannot donate to the site directly.
Next on the list is there are 3 New Forums that were established by user request: Feedback, Toob Tape Decks, and Tube Audio.
If you bought or sold something through TapeHeads, please let everyone else know in the Feedback section how the deal went. If it went well, that will lend to more transactions. If it went bad, then the offending party needs to revisit their business practices and possibly avoid a future headache.
The tube section was provided as a place for you BottleHeads to congregate. So have fun with it.
And now for the Big One: I have built a home page for TapeHeads. It isn't showing up yet as it takes up to 48 hours to process through the servers. If I did it right, you should see it either later on today or by the end of the day tomorrow at the latest. If I screwed something up, well, there's a possibility that the forum might disappear for awhile until I get a chance to bring it back online.
Because of all of the changes that are afoot, it's time to ask for some help. I've done pretty much all I can do with the forums. I am now going to focus a substantial amount of my attention at further building and expanding the soon to be unveiled (hopefully) Home Page as well as promoting the site and seeking more sponsorships. So I am going to need 2 (two) loyal TapeHeaders to take on a moderator position for me. This is an unpaid, volunteer position to help keep an eye on the site while I am working more on the back end and promotional side of it. Responsibilities will include moderating and approving new members and their posts. And deleting posts and banning spammers if and when needed. Additional priviledges/responsibilities will be editing posts, sticking posts (if deemed so-worthy), moving, and locking discussions as needed. The people I pick, I assume will of course share my vision and attitude for running the site. Of course Moderator rights can and will be revoked if I see any shades of Grumpy. But judging from what I've seen so far, I don't think I need to worry much about that.
Please PM me if interested. I will be making my decision and promoting the mods sometime in the next week.
And finally. After thinking it over, I thought "why not"? What's wrong with rewarding loyalty? So whoever referred the AK member of the year over to here as well as Scorp for his 1k posts, sure. I'll hook you two up with a tape. List your choice here. And I'll get in touch with you via PM for the details.
Certain factions might view this as "bribery" or "needing to buy members".
Well poo on him. I see it as an investment. And why SHOULDN'T loyalty be rewarded? The airlines and supermarkets have been doing it for decades. Why not Audio discussion sites as well?
I guess that's about it for now. It's certainly a lot. And now. If you'll excuse me, have to flip the reels over. Got a Maxell UD 35-180 I made in 1990 playing on the X-1000R right now.
Thanks again for the ongoing support.
