Hi, everyone!

Would there be any interest here in 6 oz. cans of the original Cramolin blue (B-5)? These are the original oh-so-glorious Ozone-depleting Freon TF versions with 5% Cramolin (not DeOxIT) blue. I've stumbled across a source. These cans are OLD, but I don't believe the stuff goes bad (contrary to what CAIG says. I've got 25-YO Cramolin red and blue in bottles and it's just fine).

What say yous? Vote!

How much and can it stop that pesky Superman?

Oh, I see that poll now.

Maybe, but not this month. I hear so much about this stuff from antique radio hobbyists who started in the 60s and 70s. Then I here maybe it's hard to get or this and that.

My oscilloscope is still flatlined too.

I do, too.

PM me. I really don't know a lot about this nor about Deoxit to know much about what I want.

Originally, CAIG imported Cramolin from its German manufacturer (or made it themselves under license, depending upon whom you believe. These cans say "Packaged for CAIG," so I tend to believe the former) and there were only two kinds. Red, and Blue. Red was intended for dirtier, more oxidized situations, and Blue was intended to protect new and Red-treated contacts, controls and the like. These original versions were solvented with Freon TF, probably the best cleaner/degreaser known to man, and a fantastic low surface-tension carrier that also did not attack plastic. Cramolin worked to protect surfaces by allowing the contact to move it out of the way, and then the Cramolin would migrate back over the bare area when the contact or wiper was moved again.

Then, things changed. Apparently, two things happened. One was that the rat-bastards at the EPA decided that all forms of Freon were evil (whether you believe this is a lie or the truth is up to you) and of course banned it. Why they did not make an exemption for the small quantities used in the electronics service business, I will never know. I agree that air-conditioners shouldn't be vented into the atmosphere, and that trillions of spray cans should use something else as a propellant, but come on. I only need a little bit of this stuff every now and again. Anyway, I digress.

The second thing that happened is that the people at Caig decided that Cramolin cost too much, so they hired one of the original chemists who formulated Cramolin to make their own versions. They also changed the solvent to napthalene, which is harmless to most, but not all plastics.

It used to be that you treated the control switch or surface with Red and you were done, (or you could follow up with Blue if you really wanted to) or treated a new or lightly-dirty control/surface with Blue. Now, it's clean with DeoxIt, then shoot with ProGold and/or PreserveIT (essentially Cramolin Blue), follow with FaderLube, and then perhaps follow up by waving Caig's special ElectronicIncenseIT over the control along with a chant (I'm kidding). Don't get me wrong, the new stuff works and works well, it's just that they've convinced everyone to use three or four chemicals instead of one or two.

Anyway, Cramolin Blue is intended to protect new controls and contacts, will clean somewhat dirty controls and switches, acts a a light lubricant and is great stuff. Finding cans of it was fantastic!

Okay, that's probably the best description I've heard of it yet. I think all I had was a tiny can of ProGold or whatever, not what I needed to start.

PM me with your plans and I have other things to follow up on as well this afternoon.

I scooped up the last of the supply of this stuff, so if anyone wants some, now is the time to speak up!

I do as well but I'll be strapped for a while and food-medicine are the most important things right now.
