So Agfa used to be one on my favorite under-the-radar brands of tape. They made a very nice Type-III FeCr and a good Type-II CrO2. But you never see any up for sale on the auction house, and the last ones I have are shown here.

Anybody else ever use Agfa tape and have any reminisces?

I have seen them over the years, but I never bought or used one. :)

I once got a sample cassette of Agfa Magnetite 12 tape from a company that custom loaded blanks of whatever lengths to order. It was type 1, but it sounded as clean as the best type II tapes. It looked like no other tape I have ever seen; it had a slight bluish tinge to it. Apparently this was from a degree of cobalt in the formulation.

Not only did this tape sound incredible, I could hammer it with level unlike anything save the absolute hottest metals on a good day. I had a Teac V770 deck then, and I could hit the Magnetite with levels that could peak at just below it's +12, and they'd come back just as hot.

This was in the late summer of 1989. I wanted to order a lot of it, only to find out they'd just discontinued manufacturing it, and it was all gone....

I,ve seen some R2R for sale on e-bay on occasion and before I loaned my Nikon to my Son 20 years ago ,I tried their film which I thought was cold compared to Fuji
