After taking it back out of the closet, I was hit with reality. This deck is just too intricate for me to fix. I can barely repair a standard 3 head tape deck, but this beast is just above and beyond what I can do. It has 100 different wires runnning all over the place, the majority of them are wire-wraped around conductive posts rather than soldered or fasted into a socket. (How the heck do you get those off?) There are many many screws, which I have barely managed to keep up with. I simply can't repair this and am afraid to try, as with my previous failed attempt with a Pioneer CT-F1250 a couple years ago. (The inside of that is a nightmare!)

The only issue I know of is a dead left input channel. Playback still works fine for both channels. Transport seems to be in good shape too. This will need a restoration regardless, and I am not brave enough for it.

I can't let it sit and rot anymore. It's too beautiful and rare of a machine to let go to waste.

If it's too expensive to fix, I may have to donate it to a fellow TH'er whom has more knowledge than me.

Does anyone here know who I could contact about repairs?

Service manual helps, I have also experience about hopeless cases but has managed to repair these. Though dunno how complex monster the EL-7...

I love those happy endings!*Hi5*

I got tired of bawling when the hound dog had to get shot *hypnot*

Okay, the EL-7 is in Pacific's hands now. Can't wait to see it back up and working!
