I'd make you a steak dinner but I don't think it would travel.
I did find a band for you...

Happy Birthday Nando! We'll have to do lunch again some time. Put on a tape and get some rum and egg nog. Maybe warm up the Buick for a run, but not in that order :P.

Hi all,
Thank you so much for the great birthday wishes. I am sorry I hadn't responded sooner, but I had a few sleepless nights... and it wasn't caused by hard partying. My boss informed me I would be finished work at the end of this month. I got the news the day before my birthday, and coincidentally, it was five years ago to the day, when all 306 of us, working at our pulpmill, were told the mill would be closing permanently, after 94 years of existence. So, yes, it has caused me some angst as it did bring up the same sort of emotions I experienced back then. There will be work for me in the spring, as a carpenter and I are rebuilding a wooden water flume, which is the main source of water for the mill and also drives a Pelton Wheel creating electricity. I have to admit, I was very fortunate in maintaining a job at the mill, long after it closed in March of 2006. There are only three of us left, today, tending the site, until a buyer can be found for the property.
I did have a wonderful time with my family on my birthday, so I'll fill you all in a little later.
Nando.

Oh wow Nando. Sorry to hear the news. I guess you'll have unemployment benefits to tie you over till spring? I've lost work before and I know how that feels. I hope this doesn't put too much stress on you with bills, etc. I hope you find something permanent soon.
Is there any hope the mill could reopen with business picking up for sending product to China?

Sorry to hear about the mill and your job. Hopefully you will find suitable employment quickly.

Nando,
Wishing you a Happy Birthday. Remember we are all rooting for you here on Tapeheads. Hope the New Year finds you employed quickly, even sooner than the springtime project. Having a wonderful family and a great time makes things much easier to handle. Best wishes and don't worry good things come to good people.

Nando, you have Geri and you have us.
Geri looks a lot better than us.
Anyway, I had heard about your misfortunes and I sent an email to Gordon (or at least INFO) asking for details about the phono and what to do.
I really appreciated the SS present of the Schwinn book, very good reading and I've wanted a copy for a few years!
PS My gift will be going out ASAP, had to pay bills and I hope it gets there in time since there are still eight days left to get it there.
PPS My optometrist says I have not got any diabetes-related eye disease and wrote me a new glasses prescription. BIFOCALS. Probably from seeing too many cute 55 year old ladies around here *footmouth* I've got my size and am going to find some NOS frames on eBay and go from there.
Please take heart and don't feel too bad right now? My dad had to retire because of cancer, after all. Yes, he is okay and over chemo now, looking to stretch his shrunken esophagus back out and eat better.
Nando, you are a true friend to everyone and the very epitome of a Tapehead!
No, I'm not going to attempt an HMS Pinafore spoof (PHEW!)

Happy Belated Birthday, Nando...
You've been a great friend to a lot of us here on TapeHeads. I, for one, am very thankful for the warmth and caring you've shown to me and to the TH community.
No doubt the news about your job was not the best of "presents", though. Ouch. *sigh*
I hope you find ongoing work soon. There are a lot of us here wishing you the Very Best in the New Year! *yes*

Dear Nando,
Živio ti meni 100 godina!!! (May you live for a 100 years my friend)
You are one of the people that embody the best this community has to offer - passion, knowledge and most importantly, friendship! I am sorry about your job but stay positive. Good things come to good people.

Scott, John, Larry, Lee, Steven, Steve, Daren, and Antun: Thanks so much for the words of encouragement. I do feel this forum is truly an extension of my other family: a group of people who do care about each others' well-being.
With impending job loss, there is always the uncertainity of what lies ahead. So, there's disbelief at first, but, once I've realized it will, eventually, work out, and even improve, as I'm looking into upgrading my skills by considering on-line courses. My biggest issue, is to find work, locally, and not to have to travel out of town. I did that for five months, and it sure did add time to my 12 hour shift schedule. And my parents are at the age, I don't want to relocate from Squamish. They would be devastated. Most of you can understand how it is to be in the "Sandwich Generation": looking after are own children, then our parents, later on in life.
I do feel better, and just listening to some good tunes (mainly, Pink Floyd and Dire Straits) and my local rock FM station has helped. There is plenty of therapeutic value to those old cassettes and records.
Take care all,
Nando.

Nando,
Happy birthday - I hope everything will be fine.
I'll have a couple of new tracks for a mixtape for you, not G Szabo, but related stuff. I hope to prepare it during the Christmas break.
All the best,

Hi Istvan,
Once the holidays are over, I'll be set to begin recording again. I do have another Gabor Szabo pre-recorded open reel tape to copy for you, that you hadn't heard before.
Our master bedroom rebuild has been completed. Too bad, we had committed the funds, before finding out about the work situation. My new system for the new bedroom will look quite different, and this time around I may incorporate a few of my Pioneer Elite components.
I, always, enjoy your mixes and it will be wonderful to hear more of your well-composed, quality recordings.
Nando.
