What makes it so rare? :-? Wasn't Setton products just made for a few years?

Setton's previous line, with the BS-5500/PS-5500 pre/power amp and the RS-11 turntable left them with little to no money at all because it sold so poorly due to a VERY high MSRP. why? pierre cardin design firm's royalty for the beautiful faceplace designed by his corporation.
When setton released the tape deck, they very quickly went under/out of business and production was stopped. They also didn't advertise it. I've never seen or heard of even a brochure or ad for the DC-12.

my best guess is around 75. it's possible that only a prototype was made, and that picture IS IT.
the preamp/amp combo that I have, although EXTREMELY RARE, are findable, unlike the tape deck.they all have VERY low serial numbers. my Setton PS-5500 preamp has the serial number of 07000080, which means that it's the 80'th preamp off the line. (or, unit off the line, as I believe the amp/preamp numbers were combined.)

I've yet to see any piece of Setton gear in person. I've only experienced them by forum posts.
Geographic envy, I guess.

Very industrial. Reminds me of some H/K. How does it spec out?

No clue !
If there was only a prototype made, it's possible that none was ever printed.
Although, my best guess is that there is some other tape deck made by a different company with exactly the same "insides" as the setton. Sort of like how CONCEPT took a sansui tape deck and branded a new faceplace on it. and, how SETTON took the lafayette LR-9090 receiver and stuck a pierre cardin designed faceplace on it. *hypnot*

Interesting. I met a person who was involved with Sony's development of the cdp for autos (lives not too far from me). He has the third manufactured. Sony has the first two, one in Japan the other here. When they showed at CES they had two units set up. One was playing but they had the amp section isolated and hidden as it got so hot you could fry eggs*eyepop*. The other unit was for display only.
