Hi all,
One of my favourite musicians has a birthday, today. Have any of you seen him in concert? I still haven't. In lieu of that, how about one of his albums you like the best?

Yes, i've seen him several times 'live'. The first time was in 1967, at the Whiskey A Go Go in Hollywood, as part of the Buffalo Springfield. Saw him again as "Neil Young" at The Troubadour in 1969, and then again with CSN&Y at a concert at The Forum, somewhere around 1970 or so.
btw...Too bad Buffalo Springfield couldn't get it totally together (for a much longer period), as they were flippin LOADED with talent....and no tellin' what they could have accomplished.

Sorry to say I've never seen Neil perform live. I too dig the Buffalo Springfield part of his career but would have to say that "After The Gold Rush" is my favorite recording by Neil.

I have not seen Neil Young in concert, yet. But, I sure envy any of you who have seen him perform, especially, with Crosby, Stills and Nash. I recorded a tune for a mix tape I created for Dazen1, which was the 9+ minute live performance of "Southern Man" from CSNY's "4 Way Street" album. That tune is worthy of recording for Larry's (speakerman) Guitar Travelling Tape(s), presently being circulated.
One of my favourite CDs is his "Dreamin' Man Live '92" which was released in 2009. It's an acoustic rendition, but well worth the listen.

Listened to Wolfgang's Vault presentation of his 1991? charity concert in California today. Nice.
I signed up at the Vault a few years ago and can listen to some stuff for free. Nice way to celebrate his BD.
I saw Neil as a guest at Stephen Stills concert in W, D.C. back in the 70s. We got tickets to the second concert that night so Neil was barely able to hold his guitar but the music was great.

I saw him live at the Seattle Center during CSN&Y's "reunion" tour (don't remember the year...*old*). The energy and enthusiasm of the band was outstanding! My wife may think his voice is on the edge but I find him real, outspoken and heart-felt -- and his song-writing skills are legendary! Long live Neil!

Never seen him perform live.
Lots of good records but I think Ragged Glory might just be my fave.

All these aging icons, and no one to replace them.... CSNY was great and Neil unique - maybe not my favorite but always interesting.

I've just seen him once in concert, I think it was round about the last time he was playing with Crazy Horse (late 2003). Fantastic, and would have gone to every show I could have since, but have never even been in the same country as any of the subsequent tours.
I've got a lot of live NY on video, and he's just a great, great live act. And unique.
For late-period Neil, I'd recommend picking up the Madrid concert from 2008 (Rock in Rio). It's up on Trader's Den right now. It's long, it's loud, and it rocks fucking hard.
