Blackwatch Review

I was looking for the comprehensive review you did once of the 3M Blackwatch 4040's and couldn't find it on here, and didn't recall perhaps if it was done on "that other place". Can you point me to the review, or re-post it on this forum?

I don't think I ever did an in depth review of those tapes the same way I did with the Akai and RMGI tapes. I think the post you are referring to was more of a photo gallery and asking if anyone had tried them. I basically summed them up by saying that they are comparable-if not identical to-the Denon HD-M.

Thanks. I thought I recalled an in-depth review before. I had a comment from a well-respected taper who said the Blackwatch tapes were "My opinion is that the 4040's are mediocre at best, and for me, have not been considered scarce at all." I was looking for the review to decide for myself, as I haven't used one yet.

Interesting. He may have said that as s response to my original post. Now I'll have to see if I can go dig it up. You have aroused my curiosity.

Anyway, since no detailed review of that tape is known to exist and since you have some, maybe you could do one for us. I suppose I could. But I can't do it today. And all but my last two boxes are sold out.

Well you don't have to worry about me- I don't think I ever commented on the 4040 tape if memory serves. I have yet to use one. Im still waiting to order some from you Matt in fact.

Lol, The only comment I have made about the Blackwatch 4040 Tapes is posted in a thread here at Tapeheads.

I did record one of the ones I traded Matt for earlier. I was pleased with the tape and recording I made. I recorded it with quite a bit of signal level and I still didn't have any hint of over saturation or distortion. If I had ready access to a bunch of them I would have bought them.
