Blood and gore ahead. Well, no but you get the idea. I've been trying to make a better 510M by doing some parts swapping with my parts machine. One of the channels was a little low so I swapped them. The transformer hums a little so that is up next. Interestingly, one has cloth covered wires and the other does not. After I'm done, I'll reset the bias and offset.

Hi Sam,
Are some transformers worth rewinding? It's fortunate you do have a donor amplifier, but I was wondering if that's a viable route if you were left with no other option. Could you tell us what tools are required for the job you are doing on your Marantz refit?
Nando.

Nando, nothing special going on here. I'm using standard hand tools. The transformer had a slight mechanical hum which is audible up close but drowned out by the fan and certainly not audible with music playing. Since I know about the hum, the swap has to be made. Eventually, I'll put the parts machine back together and get it working so I can move it on.

All done!*bananadance* A local Marantz enthusiast helped me with a nicer faceplate. The original had gotten a nasty fold during shipment which I could never straighten out. Looks much better now.*Hi5*
