I have a da-30 that will not engage the tape when a cassette is inserted. There appears to be a disconnected spring hanging from the rear of the tray assembly, but I cannot seem to see where the other end is meant to attach. I'm wondering if this is part of the problem (please look at the photo attached - note the disconnected spring on attached photo)

thanks for the info - unfortunately this refers to using a spring from a da30 in another machine (not actually in a da30)
Anybody have info on actual da30's?

Hi bssch,

I have a Tascam DA-30, and when I get home from work tonight, I'll pull it from the stereo stand. Then I'll remove the cover to expose the spring location.

Hopefully, these pictures will help you with our Tascam DA-30 tape loading problem:

Hi bssch,

This is the first time I have opened the case on my DA-30. If I had loaded a tape into the tray, while the cover was off, and the unit was powered up, I would have a hint of its function. Right now, I don't know.
