can't get her rolling.
Lights light, record lamps lamp but turn that switch to any function and it ain't got no unction.
NO. MOVEY.
But I'm happy that at least we do know for sure what it's fault is*flame*
It's small so it doesn't take a lot of space being broken*check*
We'll get back to it.
I was right before I edited: 1695.

There's a little pin that turns the motor on...you need to have tape in to rev it up!
Thanks Nakdoc!
I'm going to put a tape on and try to jam now. Alleged pictures of the suspected deck are rumored near interception for declassified inspection.
Posted, even!

I put a TDK 7" on and got sopme German language opera, nice and wide and robust. Fast forward worked okay, rewind needed an assist. Speed was steady however.
This deck has Sound on Sound and handles up to 7" reels. I haven't tested the recording functions yet, have to do that next.
The controls worked nicely and the volume controls did not make noises that would be obtrusive on first usage. I haven't tried the RCA inputs and output either.
This is a picture after I finished rewinding. I'd bet a belt would help the rewind but it could be other things as well or in addition.

glad to hear you're having some luck getting it going again.
should sound pretty good when you're done rehabbing it.

The little pin that senses the tape and lets the motor run may also slow the motor based on tension indicative of being near the end, I think.
I'm not sure why I get no sound from the line jacks? I'm looking for something and it isn't working even with the headphones unplugged.

I assume it is a 2 head deck. If so, clean the record/play switches.

Have you figured out how to remove the back cover? On mine, the two bottom screws come right out (with the bottom feet). The top feet screws just turn and the feet loosen slightly (like a nut on the other side.
Mine sound great thru headsets, but no RCA jack output!*fit* Chuck

It's too late now...sold it this afternoon.
Try the TOP. Nakdoc likely knows.

If that was you that bought it the thought didn't strike me until after 1 am. It's almost 10 am and I'm still half alive.
I never opened it. The last thing I needed was another set open when I had to move/sell a bunch of stuff already. I hope that doesn't stop you with fixing it.
I think Willie Nelson was sourced from another reel if you were listening to the XLII. The Chic-Le Freak prior to it was a somewhat scratchy LP/dance mix and the whole tape was a mix for a party long ago sent to me sometime last summer.
I have the soundtrack to Angels Among Us? on CD and Georgia On My Mind was a really good comparison to Angel Flying Too Close To The Ground (the low guitar notes on Angel were obviously overly fattened for that CD and while it works it does sound more like a bar jukebox than the band played it in my opinion).
If that's news to you then I just woke up.

Hey Steven! Hi! Yeah I'm the lucky buyer.....haven't hooker up yet but put on a 'Ventures' tape with headsets and it sounds excellent........but I did watch the guitars twanging from the output RCA's via my Tektronix scope and it 'looked' strong so It should work fine into my Technics SU 8600.
Gotta go thru the complexity of connecting it thru my dbx 400X (thanx much for this one too! :))and a dbx 228, so it'll be a little while until I get the hook-ups scrambled properly. Chuck

Neither Lee nor I managed to get a sign of life from the 465M today. I'm sending him a PDF of the manual. Had the backlighting for the grid once and no panel or indicators, no traces.
Not a trace of real damage to the box nor the cushioning and especially not the scope!

well, if the fan is not running, I'd suspect no power (fuse or?). If the fan is running I'd suspect some deep do-do (power supply or?) Chuck

1 1/4 A AGC? fuse was OK, said Lee, yes no fan.
PS Come get the remote next time you're in town. Most of the speed/motion/image and audio switching in on the remote.
It was part of the deal, I'm slightly absentminded when busy maybe.
Fresh batteries also.
I have others, this one is best for that player. I have another and Pioneer DVD/uni plus a bunch of RS/One 4 All/other uni that will do me.
I can open the lid and look/take pictures later.

The schematic on my 454A has two fuses in the transformer primaries and also after the main fuse and on/off switch is a hi temp thermal device that is on/off auto upwards to 200 deg......I would check voltages around the xformer windings. The little AC cooling fan not runing indicates that it is before your power supply components and should be 1. power cord 2. power switch 3. primary fuse 4. something like that thermal device Chuck

I'll get the lid off and look...
I was going to suggest going to email or PM and then, HEY! It's MY THREAD!
I can't hijack my own thread unless I'm REALLY warped, I suppose *Spin**lmao**grin*

Hi All
I am looking for new belts for this Vintage Reel-to-Reel, JVC RD-1695. I bought this new mid to late 1970's and I still have several Professional Music tapes as well as home recordings that I like to listen too. The speeds have not been true for a year or so and it is just sitting in my stereo cabinet - looks good but not functional. I took it apart about a year ago and remember seeing two belts I think. If you know of more than one source (supplier) please provide all known resources. If you know the part numbers please send! Much Appreciated
